RIPON, WI – The Beloit College women's soccer team displayed unwavering determination and grit in a hard-fought match against conference rivals Ripon College, ultimately falling 1-0 in a closely contested battle at Hopp Stadium. Despite the final score, the Buccaneers (2-11-2, 1-5-1 MWC) showcased significant defensive strength and offensive flashes throughout the 90 minutes.
The first half was a testament to Beloit's defensive organization, as they held the Red Hawks (4-7-5, 2-2-3 MWC) scoreless. Goalkeeper Sophia Dietz (Schaumburg, IL), a linchpin in the Beloit defense, made crucial saves, thwarting Ripon's early attempts and keeping the Buccaneers in the game. Dietz ended the match with 3 saves, a testament to her commanding presence in goal.
While the first half saw Beloit's offense still finding its rhythm, the second half brought a noticeable surge in their attacking efforts. The Buccaneers registered all four of their shots in the second period, with players like Sarah Connors (Paso Robles, CA) and Keira Werner (Piper, KS) testing the Ripon goalkeeper who also put in a strong performance with 2 saves.
One of the standout narratives for Beloit was the tireless work rate of their midfield and defensive lines. Players such as Connors, Willow Mashkuri (Middlesex, Vt.), Meah Mora (Caldwell, ID), Zyana Turcios (Elmwood Park, Ill.), and Grace Christos (Valporariso, IN) each played the full 90 minutes, demonstrating exceptional endurance and commitment. Their consistent presence was vital in disrupting Ripon's play and initiating Beloit's counter-attacks.
The lone goal of the match came late in the second half, at 81:40, when Ripon found the back of the net. However, Beloit's response was immediate and spirited. They continued to press for an equalizer, creating chances and pushing Ripon's defense to its limits until the final whistle.
The Buccaneers return home to the Strong Complex Soccer Field for their final two matches of the 2025 regular season. They will host non-conference Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday, October 28th at 3 pm and wrap up the regular season on Saturday, November 1st against Cornell College.
