BELOIT, WI – The Beloit College women's volleyball team hosted Lawrence University this afternoon and ultimately fell to the Vikings in three sets (17-25, 8-25, 9-25). The loss drops the Buccaneers to 4-19 overall and 0-6 in MWC play. The Vikings move to 20-10 overall and 4-2 in the MWC.
Beloit's offense faced significant hurdles throughout the match, particularly in hitting efficiency. Despite the offensive struggles, several players showcased their determination. Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) and Kierra Rayne Hoover (Albuquerque, New Mexico) led the team in kills with six each, demonstrating there potential as key attacking forces. Selin Tufte (Clarkdale, Ariz.) also made her presence felt with 5 kills.
On the defensive end, Beloit exhibited grit, logging 42 total digs. Maddisyn Adams (Stockett, MT) led all Buccaneers with nine while Addie Schmitt, Aliyah Gerard and Renee Stout each contributed five. The team also managed to put up 3.0 total blocks, a testament to their efforts at the net. Hoover registered a solo block in the first set, highlighting individual defensive plays.
In the first set, Beloit managed to keep pace early on, with the score tied at 3-3 after a kill by Lawrence. However, Lawrence quickly pulled away. Beloit's service game also had its moments, with Adams delivering an ace in the first set.
The second and third sets saw Lawrence maintain control, with stronger offensive execution and fewer unforced errors. Lawrence's blocking was also a factor, notably in moments like the block on Tufte in the second set.
The Buccaneers are back in action on Tuesday, October 28th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a rematch against the Alverno Inferno. The match is set to start at 7 pm in the Reiman Gymnasium.
