JACKSONVILLE, IL – The Beloit College Buccaneers women's soccer team struggled on the road this evening, falling 3-0 to conference foe Illinois College at England Stadium. Despite the final score, the Buccaneers (2-8-2, 1-2-1 MWC) displayed resilience and determination against a strong Lady Blues squad.
From the opening whistle, both teams showed intent, but the Lady Blues (6-6-2, 3-1-0 MWC) were able to break the deadlock early. IC opened the scoring at 15:58, followed by a goal at 35:10, giving Illinois College a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Beloit's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Sophia Dietz (Schaumburg, IL), was tested repeatedly throughout the match. Dietz, who played the majority of the game, made crucial saves to keep the Buccaneers within striking distance. Kaya Williams (Cincinnati, OH), played the final 16+ minutes between the pipes, making three saves. In total, the Buccaneers' goalkeepers combined for an impressive 13 saves against a relentless Illinois College offense that registered 24 shots, 16 of which were on target.
While Illinois College controlled much of the possession (55% to Beloit's 45%) and outshot the Buccaneers 24-7, Beloit created several opportunities of their own. Players like Keira Werner (Piper, KS) and Meah Mora (Caldwell, ID) contributed to Beloit's attacking efforts, forcing saves from Illinois College's Keeper.
The second half saw Illinois College add a third goal at 81:33, but Beloit continued to fight.
