JANESVILLE, Wis. - In a spirited contest at the Woodman's Sports & Convention Center this evening, the Beloit College Buccaneers faced off against Augsburg in a game that, despite ending in a 4-2 loss for Beloit, showcased moments of resilience from the Buccaneers. The game saw the Auggies improve their record to 2-2-1, while the Buccaneers record moved to 0-2-0.

The first period began with both teams testing the waters, but it was Augsburg who broke the deadlock with Peyton Hanson scoring at 16:02. Beloit's defense, led by goaltender Anthony Zolezzi (Oswego, IL), managed to keep Augsburg's offense largely in check, facing 8 shots on goal but allowing only one to find the net. Key defensive plays, including a blocked shot by J.D. Shoniker (Burlington, ON)r against Augsburg's Nick Catalano early in the period, highlighted Beloit's commitment to protecting their net. Offensively, Beloit had fewer opportunities, with 4 shots on goal. A notable moment was Valerii Kneib's (Dmitrov, Russia) shot off-target at 2:39, showing the Buccaneers' intent to challenge.

The second period saw a significant shift in momentum for the Buccaneers. Kneib scored at 03:08, bringing the score to a tie. The excitement continued as Josh Gulden (New Ulm, MN) netted another goal for Beloit at 06:29, giving the Buccaneers a 2-1 lead. These goals were a testament to Beloit's offensive potential and the ability of players like Kneib and Gulden to capitalize on opportunities. However, Augsburg responded, tying the game at 2-2 with Hanson's second goal at 08:25 and then taking the lead again at 12:44 with another goal from Hanson. The period also featured several penalty minutes for both teams, indicating the intense nature of the game. Zolezzi made crucial saves, facing 11 shots on goal and stopping 9 of them.

Entering the third period trailing 3-2, the Buccaneers showed determination. Despite Augsburg extending their lead to 4-2 at 10:39 with a power-play goal from Ryan Comishock, Beloit continued to fight. The period was marked by numerous shots on goal from both sides, with Beloit unleashing 13 shots. Gulden, Kneib, and Shoniker, were active, constantly pressing Augsburg's defense. Zolezzi continued his strong performance in goal, making 13 saves in the third period. The game concluded with Augsburg winning 4-2, but Beloit's resilience, particularly in the faceoff circle where Nathan Hinze won 12 of 15 faceoffs (80%), demonstrated their competitive spirit.

Kneib was a crucial offensive force for Beloit, scoring the team's first goal in the second period, which ignited the Buccaneers' rally. Gulden followed up Kneib's goal with another, briefly giving Beloit the lead and showcasing his scoring ability.Beloit's goaltender was a consistent presence, making a total of 30 saves throughout the game, facing 34 shots on target. His efforts kept Beloit in contention, especially during Augsburg's periods of offensive pressure. Nathan Hinze's (Chaska, MN) dominance in the faceoff circle (80% win rate) was a significant asset, providing Beloit with possession and control at key moments.
