Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Buccaneers Tame Terriers, Earn Program's First Win

CHARGIN FALLS, OH – The Beloit College Men's hockey team delivered a commanding performance against Hiram this evening, securing a decisive 6-1 victory for the first in program history. The Buccaneers, now with a 1-2-0 record, showcased strong offensive prowess and solid goaltending to outmaneuver the Terriers (1-4-0).

Beloit set the tone early, with Hunter Nelson (Jamestown, ND) opening the scoring in the first period at 12:57, assisted by Nathan Hinze (Chaska, MN). This initial goal served as an early momentum shift, putting Beloit on the scoreboard first and giving them confidence. The first period saw Beloit outshooting Hiram 9-4, indicating their aggressive start.

The Buccaneers continued their offensive surge in the second period, adding two more goals to extend their lead. Nolan Christy (Burnsville, MN) found the back of the net at 02:01, with Nelson picking up his second point of the game on the assist. Later in the period, Valerii Kneib (Dmitrov, Russia) scored at 18:05, further solidifying Beloit's control. The second period was a testament to Beloit's relentless attack, as they peppered Hiram's goalie with 23 shots compared to Hiram's 6.

The third period saw Beloit put the game out of reach with three additional goals. Ben Stewart (Dayton, OH) notched his first goal of the game at 03:56, followed quickly by Andronique Stepanian (Reynoldsburg, OH) at 04:40, assisted by Kneib and Zach Hutchinson (West Salem, WI). These rapid-fire goals early in the third period completely deflated any hope of a Hiram comeback. Stewart then scored his second goal of the game on a power play at 12:46, effectively sealing Beloit's dominant performance. Hiram managed to get on the board late in the third period with a goal from Neil Pretorius at 19:21, preventing a shutout, but it was too little, too late.

Jude Ayling (London, England) was a rock in net for Beloit, making 13 saves and allowing only one goal, earning the win for the Buccaneers. His steady performance was crucial in containing Hiram's limited offensive attempts.

The Buccaneers outshot the Terriers by a significant margin of 47-14 for the game, reflecting their superior offensive pressure and ability to control the play in the attack zone. This convincing victory will undoubtedly boost Beloit College's confidence as they continue their season.

The Bucs and Terriers return to The Pond for a rematch tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is set for 4:05 pm ET.
