Rainy Conditions Stall Buccaneers Against Maroons

BELOIT, Wis. – The Beloit College football faced a challenging day on their home turf at Strong Stadium, falling to the University of Chicago Maroons with a final score of 40-0. Despite the Buccaneers' efforts, Chicago dominated the game, showcasing a strong offensive and defensive performance. The Buccaneers fall to 1-8 overall and 1-7 in Midwest Conference play while the Maroons improve to 7-2 overall and 7-1 in conference action. 

From the outset, Chicago set the tone, scoring in every quarter. The Maroons' diverse attack saw them accumulate 279 net rushing yards and 218 net passing yards, compared to Beloit's 34 rushing yards and 49 passing yards. The Maroons also maintained possession for a significant portion of the game, holding the ball for 37:16 compared to Beloit's 22:44.

While the scoreboard didn't favor the Buccaneers, several Beloit players demonstrated notable effort throughout the game.

On the rushing front, Jonathan Williamson (Bridgeport, CT) led the Buccaneers with 22 yards on 4 carries, including a long of 17 yards. Anthony Sharp (Las Vegas, NV) contributed 8 rushing yards on 3 attempts.

In the passing game, Ben Parker (Las Vegas, NV) completed 11 of 27 passes for 49 yards. The receiving corps saw contributions from AJ Williams (North Las Vegas, NV) with 4 catches for 13 yards, and Chris Moore (Lakeland, FL) who also snagged 2 passes for 13 yards. Anthony Manuel (Las Vegas, NV) recorded 2 receptions for 8 yards. Williams and Sharp each caught one pass for 5 and 4 yards, respectively.

Defensively, the Buccaneers fought hard to contain Chicago's offense. Josh Martinez (Beloit, WI) was a standout, leading the team with 13 total tackles (3 solo, 10 assisted). Nate Caplan (Stuart, FL) also had a strong showing with 10 total tackles (2 solo, 8 assisted). RJ Dube III (Tavernier, FL) contributed 9 tackles (1 solo, 8 assisted), and Jimmy Guillaume (West Palm Beach, FL) added 7 tackles (7 assisted).

Special teams saw Ian Ladd (Madison, WI) punt 9 times for an average of 33.7 yards, with a long of 44 yards. In the return game, Williams returned 3 kickoffs for 44 yards, and Amani Floyd (Miami, FL) also had 3 kickoff returns for 63 yards, with a long of 25 yards. Moore handled punt return duties, taking 1 punt for 2 yards.

The Buccaneers wrap up the 2025 season next Saturday against the Illinois College Blue Boys at home at Strong Stadium. Kick off is set for noon. The Buccaneers will celebrate senior day prior to kick off.
