DUBUQUE, IA - The Spartan Shootout, held on February 1st at the Dubuque-Chlapaty Rec Center in Dubuque, Iowa, witnessed a strong showing from Beloit College's track and field team. While the competition included several schools and unattached athletes, Beloit's athletes consistently impressed, particularly in the sprints, throws, and relay events.
MEN
Sophomore Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) was a standout performer for the Buccaneers, demonstrating remarkable versatility. He secured first place in the Men's 60 Meters finals, earning a valuable 10 points for his team with a time of 6.93. Yearby's performances also extended to the 200 meters, where he grabbed first place with a strong time of 22.34, also marking a career-best. His speed and consistency underscore his potential as a key athlete for Beloit in the coming seasons.
Freshman John Deary II (Westwego, LA) placed 3rd in the long jump, reaching 6.79m. In triple jump, Sophomore Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.) took home fifth with a strong jump of 12.81m.Â
Beloit's strength in the throwing events was evident at the meet. Sophomore Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) placed fourth in the shot put. Martinez reached 14.90m. He followed that up with a seventh place finish in the weight throw, hitting 14.48m.Â
In the Men's 4 x 400 Relay, the Beloit "A" team displayed impressive teamwork, finishing first place and setting a new school record with a time of 3.24.10. The team, composed of Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.), Yearby, Zewdie, and Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin), demonstrated the depth and coordination of the Beloit program.Â

Beloit's athletes contributed in various events, including:
- Dylan Malmgren (Loves Park, Ill.)Â took 4th overall in the Men's Mile.
- Cooper Rathmann (Milwaukee, Wis.)Â took 7th in the Men's Pole Vault with a height of 2.61m.
WOMEN
In the highly competitive Women's 400 Meters, sophomore Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.) secured a solid 5th place finish with a time of 1:03.02, contributing to the team's overall performance. Freshman Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.), displayed her speed in the same event, finishing 9th. Beloit's depth was highlighted by the presence of Selin Tufte (Clarkdale, Ariz.) and Carly Carpenter (Sycamore, Ill.)Â in the 400m as well.
Simone de Montigny proved to be the same strong distance runner she was in the fall, placing 4th in the women's 3000m. She crossed the line in 11:36.40.Â
The Women's 4 x 400 Relay showcased Beloit's team spirit, with both "A" and "B" squads putting in strong efforts. The "A" team, comprised of Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.), Jaeonie Echols (Kansas City, Mo.), Gama, and  Miller ran a 4:21.19 to secure a third place finish, highlighting their ability to compete against tough opposition. The "B" team, featuring Tufte, Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa), Carpenter and Haley Carlin (Sarasota, Fla.) showcased the college's strength with a consistent performance in the event as well.
In the field events,Kit Kronberger (Wausau, Wis.) produced a solid performance with a 4th place finish (12.78m) in the Women's Weight Throw, which proved to be an extremely tough event for all teams involved. Also, freshman Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.) placed 5th (11.99m) in this event, and in the Shot Put the finished back-to-back in 11th (10.10m) and 12th (9.87m).Â
The Buccaneers head north to Stevens Point, Wisconsin on February 8th for the Big Dawg Invite hosted by UW-Stevens Point.Â
