Men's Basketball Uses Hot Shooting to Tame Sabercats

BELOIT, WI – The Beloit College Buccaneers emerged victorious this evening against the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats, securing a 78-67 win at Flood Arena.

The Buccaneers (8-14, 3-10 MWC) displayed a balanced offensive effort, with five players reaching double figures. Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) led the charge with 16 points, showcasing efficiency around the basket while securing seven rebounds. Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) contributed 15 points, while Clayton Jenny (Edgerton, Wis.) added 12 points. Off the bench, freshman Bo Beehler (South Beloit, Ill,) provided a huge spark in the second half, scoring eight points including two threes.

Evenly matched in the paint, both the Bucs and Sabercats (2-19, 0-0 DIII Independent) tallied 38 points down low.

The Buccaneers' offensive success was built on a combination of efficient inside play and effective three-point shooting. Beloit managed to convert 47.8% of their field goals, including a strong 46.2% from beyond the arc, knocking down 12 three-pointers in total. This three point shooting played a huge role in the Beloit offense.

Defensively, Beloit forced 14 turnovers from Maranatha Baptist, converting these opportunities into 16 points. The Buccaneers also managed to contain the Sabercat's key players, holding MBU to 43.9% shooting from the field. The stout defense proved to be too much for Maranatha Baptist to handle.

The Buccaneers return to MWC play on Saturday when they head to Galesburg, Ill. for a clash with the Prairie Fire. Tip off from Memorial Gymnasium is set for 3 pm.
