GALESBURG, IL – In a hard-fought contest at Memorial Gym, the Beloit College Buccaneers faced off against the Knox College Prairie Fire in a men's basketball match up that saw the Buccaneers emerge victorious with a final score of 75-59.
The Buccaneers (9-14, 4-10 MWC), battled hard but struggled with shooting consistency throughout the game, posting a 39.4% field goal percentage (26-66). From beyond the arc, the Buccaneers were 34.5% (10-29). However, their free-throw shooting was a bright spot, finishing at 86.7% (13-15).
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) led the charge for Beloit, recording 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, a double-double effort. Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) contributed 15 points, while Jabari Scuefield (Hazel Crest, Ill.) added 12 points.
For the Knox Prairie Fire (4-19, 1-13 MWC), their offense struggled with field goal consistency, only netting 31.5% (17-54). They were able to find some luck from 3, netting 31.6% (6-19) while having near-perfect luck from the free-throw line at 95%.
There were several other positive takeaways for Beloit. The team showcased moments of strong defense, securing numerous defensive rebounds and limiting Knox's second-chance opportunities. The Buccaneers also displayed resilience in the second half, improving their shooting percentage and demonstrating offensive potential.
The Buccaneers head to Grinnell, Iowa on Wednesday for a rematch of a nail-bitting overtime loss just over a month ago. Tip off from Darby Gymnasium is set for 7:30 pm.
