Nordgren's Record-Setting Season Ends with MWC Newcomer of the Year Honors

BELOIT, Wis. - For the second straight season, one of the Midwest Conference Swimming & Diving Newcomers of the Year has come from Beloit.

Freshman Lydia Nordgren (South Beloit, Ill.) earned that honor this season after leading the Buccaneers to a fourth place finish at the MWC Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend. Nordgren spent her first season for the Bucs rewriting the record books. She now holds the individual school record in the following events: 50 Freestyle (24.04), 100 Freestyle (53.32), 200 Freestyle (2:01.72), and 100 Butterfly (57.44). She was apart of the 200 Freestyle Relay (1.42.93), 400 Freestyle Relay (3:45.47), 200 Medley Relay (1:52.76) and 400 Medley Relay (4:08.25) teams that all set school records.

Additionally, she sits second in the 200 Individual Medley and 200 Butterfly. Her times in those races are within three seconds of the record.

While competing at her first MWC Championships, Nordgren took second in the 50 Freestyle, third in the 100 Butterfly, third in the 100 Freestyle, and was apart of the Beloit relay teams that took fourth (400 Freestyle Relay, 200 Medley Relay, and 400 Medley Relay) and fifth (200 Freestyle Relay).
