MONMOUTH, Ill. - The 2025 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships began this afternoon at the Huff Athletic Center on the campus of Monmouth College. After one day of action the Beloit College Men's Track and Field team sits in third place while the Women sit in seventh.
On the men's side, Sophomore
Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) took first in shot put, tossing for 14.40 meters. Also in the field,
Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) finished second in high jump, reaching 1.85 meters and Freshman
Cal Fox (Orfordville, Wis. ) placed third in Pole Vault hitting 3.51 meters.
On the track, the Buccaneers' 4x200 relay team of
Josh Yearby (West Park, FL), Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.),
Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin), and Otis crossed the line in 1:30 flat, for third place. Their 1600 sprint medley of Yearby, Otis, Atou and
Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.) also took third, clocking in at 3:38.91.
Yearby continues to prove himself as one of the fastest in the MWC, he finished second in the 60m dash at 6.89 and qualified for tomorrow's finals.
Freshman
Dylan Malmgren (Loves Park, Ill.) took sixth in the men's 5000m run with a personal best of 15:45.73.
Finally, Otis finished second in the 60m hurdles at 8.79 seconds, moving onto tomorrow's finals.
The Buccaneer women saw standout performances from a handful of athletes today.
Niomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) qualified for the 60m hurdles by finishing in 5th with a time of 10.52 seconds.
Beloit's 4x200 Relay team of
Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.),
Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.),
Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.) and
Jaeonie Echols (Kansas City, Mo.) ran a 1:48.99 to finish in third place. That same team ran the 1600 sprint medley in 4:28.35 for sixth place.
