BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College's men's basketball team encountered a frustrating evening on their home court at Flood Arena, as Ripon College secured a 72-60 victory.
The Buccaneers' (6-14, 2-10 MWC) offensive efforts were hampered, as they struggled to find a consistent rhythm and ultimately recorded a field goal percentage of just 34%. While the team managed to convert on 68% of their free-throw attempts, this positive element was overshadowed by the overall shooting woes. The Red Hawks (9-11, 6-5 MWC) shot 45.6% from the field and 35% from deep.
Several Beloit players provided moments of individual brilliance, offering glimpses of the team's potential. Brian Rusch (Edgerton, Wis.) spearheaded the Buccaneers' scoring efforts, leading the team with a solid season-high 17 points. Rusch provided a bright spot from downtown for the Bucs, shooting 5-for-9, including three straight after returning to the game from an injury. Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) added 17 and showcased his effectiveness around the basket. Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) also made significant contributions, tallying 10 points.
The Bucs head to Mount Vernorn, Iowa and Cornell College on Saturday with a rematch against the Rams. Cornell defeated the Bucs earlier this season. Tip off from mall Athletic and Wellness Center is set for 3 pm.
