STEVENS POINT, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point played host to the Big Dawg Invitational today. The Buccaneers faced teams from across the region. The meet showcased a wide range of talent, with athletes from UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater and UW-Platteville.
Taking the lone first place finish for the Buccaneers was
Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.). Otis crossed the line first in the men's 400m with a time of 50.44. Building off his success from a week ago,
Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) took second place in the Men's 200 Meter Dash with a time of 22.53. The men's 4x400 relay team of Otis, Yearby,
Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.), and Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin) took second place with a 3:25.77. Freshman
John Deary II (Westwego, LA) continues to improve in the sand. His jump of 6.68m earned him a second place finish in the long jump.
On the women's side,
Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.) contributed a strong fifth-place finish in the Women's 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:02.60.
Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.) achieved a solid third in the Women's 800 Meter Run, crossing the finish line at 2:27.75. In the field events,
Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) showcased her versatility in the high jump with a mark of 1.34m. Beloit's efforts extended to the Women's 5000 Meter Run where
Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.) with a time of 20:48.06 and
Emeline Russell (Aberdeen, Wash.) shined with 24:44.48. Rounding out the day, the Buccaneer's women's 4x400 team of Murphy,
Niomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla),
Selin Tufte (Clarkdale, Ariz.) and
Haley Carlin (Sarasota, Fla.) crossed third at 4:27.40.
The Buccaneers will face familiar competition next weekend at the UW-Platteville Invite in Plattville, Wisconsin. Action is set to start at 11 am on the 15th.
