MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Beloit College Women's Basketball team faced a challenging road game against Cornell College at the Small Athletic and Wellness Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Despite their efforts, the Buccaneers (2-20, 1-12 MWC) fell short, losing to the Rams (12-8, 8-4 MWC) with a final score of 72-49.
Throughout the game, Beloit struggled to find a consistent rhythm on the offensive end. The team shot just 31.5% from the field (17-54), and while they had a respectable 33.3% from three-point range (8-24), their inability to consistently score in the paint proved to be a significant challenge. The Rams showcased a dominant performance, shooting 44.8% from the field (26-58) and connecting on 13 of 29 attempts from beyond the arc.
Despite the team's struggles, several Beloit players demonstrated individual efforts. Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.), playing a team-high 36 minutes, led the team in scoring with 16 points, connecting on 6 of 16 field goal attempts and contributing two steals. Hadja Bayo (Round Rock, Texas), in her 25 minutes, grabbed 9 rebounds while contributing 5 blocks.
Cornell's ability to capitalize on turnovers also proved to be a significant factor, as they outscored Beloit 16-8 in points off turnovers. The bench also proved to be another advantage for Cornel, outscoring Beloit 25-19 in this area.
The Buccaneers will get a seven day break before hitting the road again, heading to Galesburg, Illinois for a game against the Knox College Prairie Fire. Tip off from Memorial Gymnasium is set for 1 pm on February 15th.
