Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Myrtle Beach Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge included a flurry of impressive performances across a wide range of track and field events. The Buccaneers saw impressive finishes from multiple athletes. 

On the Track:

Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.) showcased his endurance in the Men's 800 Open, battling to an 11th-place finish with a time of 2:04.43. Elijah Hartberg (Stoughton, Wis.) persevered, finishing 25th with a time of 2:09.68. The Women's  4x800 team, comprised of Selin Tufte (Clarkdale, Ariz.), Carter Browne (Hornell, N.Y.), Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.), and Meghan Koning (Mt. Prospect, Ill.), demonstrated teamwork, securing 11th place with a time of 11:42.71. The Men's 4x800 team, featuring Daniel, Dylan Malmgren (Loves Park, Ill.), Aiden Cortinas (Sycamore, Ill.), and Cooper Rathmann (Milwaukee, Wis.), delivered a solid performance, taking 13th with a time of 8:36.86.

In the sprints, the Beloit Women's 4x200 Relay team of Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.), Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla), Niomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla), and Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.) earned 15th place with a time of 1:53.72. The Men's 4x200 team, consisting of Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.), Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin), Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.), and Josh Yearby (West Park, FL), displayed speed and coordination, finishing ninth in 1:30.10. De Montigny demonstrated stamina in the Women's Collegiate 3000 meters, taking ninth with a time of 11:22.55.

The Men's 4x100 Collegiate Relay team, with Otis, Atou, Zewdie, and Yearby, sprinted to an 8th-place finish, clocking in at 43.87. Miller faced tough competition in the Women's 400, finishing 31st in 1:01.23. Nationally, Miller ranks 34th in DIII in the 400 with that time.  In the challenging Women's 400m hurdles, Ni. Casey secured 17th place with a time of 1:17.17. A standout performance came from Otis in the Men's 400m hurdles, where he surged to a podium finish, claiming 3rd place in 54.82. That time ranks second in DIII for 400 hurdles.

In the Field:

Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) displayed his versatility in the throwing events, taking 15th in the hammer (43.73m), 11th in the discus (43.94m), and 20th in the shot put (12.96m). In the DIII rankings, he sits in 12th for discus, 27th for hammer and 46th for shot put. Kit Kronberger (Wausau, Wis.) also competed in the throwing events, finishing 14th in the women's hammer with a throw of 39.60m and 24th in the shot put with 10.22m. Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) soared to fourth place in the Women's High Jump Open "B" flight, clearing 1.50m. In the pole vault, Na. Casey reached new heights, taking third in her Open "B" Flight with a clearance of 3.15m.

The Buccaneers have this next weekend off before competing in the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Saturday, April 5th.
