Box Score RANTOUL, IL - The Beloit College baseball team showcased its offensive prowess in a decisive 13-0 victory over Northland this afternoon. The Buccaneers (3-0, 0-0 MWC) demonstrated a potent combination of timely hitting, aggressive base running, and solid pitching, leaving no doubt about their dominance in this early-season match up.
The Buccaneer bats came alive early and often, starting with a four-run explosion in the first inning.Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.) kick-started the scoring, walking with the bases loaded to drive in Seth Brankey (Salem, Wis.). Following that, Aiden Wood (Chandler, Ariz.) took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch with the bases full to score Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.). Capping off the scoring spree in the first, Jordan Rosenberg (Leawood, KS) laced a two-RBI single before being put out at second base.
The Buccaneers continued to build their lead in the second inning. Nolan Tomsyck (Muskego, Wis) singled to center field, driving in Blake Nelson (Monument, CO.). Vogel then walked with the bases loaded, scoring Brankey. Jacopo "JT" Tamburini (Bologna, Italy) sacrificed to score Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) Lastly, Souza singled to center field, scoring Tomsyck.
The Bucs added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a Nelson three-run home run, bringing in Rosenberg and Tamburini. Elliott Simpson (Elkhorn, NE.) rounded out the scoring, grounding out to score Elijah Love (Madison, Wis.).
Peyton Nisy (Riverview, Fla.) finished up the scoring in the 6th with a bases-loaded walk that sent Brody Bremer (Mesa, Ariz.) home.
The Beloit pitching staff was equally impressive, allowing only three hits while striking out six Northland batters. Will Lyng (Helena, MT) earned his first collegiate win and combined with Maddon McArthur (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Erick Tiegs (Waukesha, Wis.) to secure the shutout.
The Bucs head south for the RussMatt Invitational starting on March 8th against Webster University. First pitch from Winter Haven, Florida is set for 12 pm central time.
