Women's Lacrosse Defeats Hamline

BELOIT, WI – In a hard-fought contest this afternoon, the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team emerged victorious over Hamline University with a final score of 14-11.

Beloit, now boasting a 2-0 record (0-0 in conference play), demonstrated strength and teamwork. Maya DeGeorge (Grand Junction, Colo.) led the charge, racking up an impressive 5 goals and an assist. Other key contributors included Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) with 3 goals and 4 assists, Cassidy Felix (Bellflower, Calif.) also with 3 goals, and Daisy Kleinhoffer (Minooka Community HS) contributing 2 goals. Freshman Willow Mashkuri netted her first collegiate goal to round out the Beloit tally. Kim Pilon (Brich Run, Mich.) stood strong in goal, racking up 5 saves and helping guide Beloit to the win.

Hamline (0-2, 0-0) put up a valiant fight, with Kayli Starkey leading their scoring with 3 goals. Nicole Phillips and Lauren Moorhouse each chipped in with 3 goals as well.

The game unfolded with a flurry of goals early on. Beloit started strong, going up 4-2 by the 4:16 mark of the first quarter. Hamline rallied to tie the game at 6-6 in the second quarter. Beloit then regained the lead, never relinquishing it, leading 10-7 after the third quarter. Hamline fought back, tying the game with the score at 11-11 but Beloit pulled away, leading to the final score of 14-11.

Beloit's ability to control the draw (15 to Hamline's 11) played a pivotal role in their success. Key to the team's ability to get to the victory was the ability to secure ground balls, amassing 31 compared to Hamline's 16.

The Buccaneers head to Rock Island, Illinois on Wednesday March 12th for a clash against the Vikings of Augustana College. The game is set to start at 6 pm.
