Baseball Swept By Yellowjackets on Day Two

WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Beloit College baseball team suffered two losses to University of Wisconsin-Superior today. In game one, the Buccaneers were defeated narrowly 2-1. Game two was a game filled with offensive fireworks with the Bucs falling 9-6 at the Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Florida, during their spring break trip.

Game 1
Beloit (3-1, 0-0 MWC) got off to a promising start in the first inning. After Seth Brankey (Salem, Wis.) singled and Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) reached, Nolan Tomsyck's (Muskego, Wis) fielder's choice advanced Brankey to third. Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.) then delivered an RBI single, scoring Brankey and giving the Bucs an early 1-0 lead.

However, UW-Superior (2-4, 0-0 UMAC) responded immediately in the bottom of the first. Dagosti doubled and then advanced to third on an error. Ondrus drove him in with an RBI single, tying the game. The eventual winning run came in the sixth inning when Fryden singled to right center, bringing in Dagosti, who had previously walked.

The Buccaneers struggled to capitalize on offensive opportunities, leaving five runners on base. Alport stood out with a stolen base, and Brody Bremer (Mesa, Ariz.) also stole a base after pinch-running late in the game.

Pitching was solid for both teams. Ben Schweit (Simi Valley, CA.) took the loss for Beloit, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 13. Harvey Pena (Riverside, Calif.) closed out the final 0.2 innings. Romans earned the win for UW-Superior, pitching 5 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, while Jensen closed out the final 2 innings for the save.

Game 2
The Buccaneers struggled to contain Wis.-Superior's lineup, particularly Dwyer who had a home run in the 7th, while their pitcher, Eamon Burke (Helena, Mont.) struggled, allowing seven runs on ten hits in just four innings. Joshua Stern (Malibu, Calif.) pitched three innings in relief for Beloit, giving up two runs on four hits.

On the offensive side, Beloit had nine hits and several key players contributed to their scoring. Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.) had two hits and one RBI, while Tomsyck also had two hits and drove in two runs. Other notable offensive contributions included an RBI from Brankey and Alport. The Buccaneers also showcased their aggressiveness on the base paths, stealing two bases with one from Collin Wright (Longmont, CO.) and one from Aiden Wood (Chandler, Ariz.).
