Track and Field Celebrate Seniors at Beloit Relays

BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Track and Field teams hosted their annual home meet, the Beloit Relays today. The Buccaneers delivered many commanding performances, showcasing both individual excellence and impressive depth across multiple event groups. The women finished third out of five teams. The men finished second of five teams. 

Women: 
Leading the charge for Beloit was Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla), who soared to victory in the Pole Vault. Casey cleared a height of 3.06m, claiming the top spot on the podium and valuable points for the team. Teammate Haley Carlin (Sarasota, Fla.) also contributed in the event, securing 7th place with a vault of 2.76m.

In the throwing events, Beloit College asserted its dominance. Hadja Bayo (Round Rock, Texas) was outstanding, winning the Discus competition with a strong throw of 36.89m. Bayo nearly added a second victory in the Shot Put, finishing a close 2nd with a mark of 10.88m. The Buccaneers packed the Shot Put standings, with Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.) taking 3rd (10.56m) and Kit Kronberger (Wausau, Wis.) placing 4th (10.19m), demonstrating remarkable strength in the event.

Kronberger also earned a silver medal in the Hammer Throw, launching it 40.94m for 2nd place. Schmitt added another top finish in the Hammer, placing 7th (33.26m). Schmitt rounded out her busy day with solid performances in the Discus (5th, 31.82m) and Javelin (7th, 25.74m). Carlin also scored in the Javelin, finishing 6th (26.76m).

Beloit's relay teams proved formidable. The 4x400 meter relay squad, composed of Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.), Alayna Furch (Saint Charles, Mo.) Casey, and Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.) raced to an impressive 2nd place finish with a time of 4:18.80. Earlier, the 4x100 meter relay team (Gama, Fuch Niomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) and Miller) secured 3rd place, clocking in at 51.32.

On the track, Furch led the individual efforts with a strong 3rd place finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 1:01.43. The 1,500-meter run saw two Beloit runners score points: Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.) placed 5th with a time of 5:12.06, followed by Miller in 7th at 5:22.45. Miller also contributed points in the 200-meter dash, finishing 8th (28.07).

Other notable performances for Beloit included Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) clearing 1.48m in the High Jump for a 3rd place finish, Emeline Russell (Aberdeen, Wash.) battling through the 10,000-meter run to take 6th place (49:43.87), and Carlin competing in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 7th (1:25.09).

Men: 
Beloit established its speed early and often. The 4x100m relay quartet of Ayouba Sumoaro (Las Vegas, NV), Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin), Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.), and Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) didn't just win; they dominated, clocking in at 42.15 seconds to set both new meet and facility records.

Individually, Yearby blazed to first place in the 100m dash with a swift time of 10.79 seconds. Teammate Sumoaro also scored in the event, finishing eighth (11.50).  Atou showcased his versatility, grabbing second place in the 400m dash (49.29) and third in the 200m dash (23.32), just ahead of Yearby in fourth (23.35).

The success continued in the 4x400m relay, where Otis, Atou, Zewdie, and Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.) capped the track events with another first-place finish, setting a new meet record with their time of 3:24.79.

Otis had a standout individual performance for Beloit. He swept the hurdle events, claiming first place in the 110m hurdles with a meet-record time of 15.89 seconds, and followed that with a victory in the 400m hurdles (54.11). Otis also contributed significantly in the field, earning third place in the high jump (1.78m), adding to his crucial roles on both winning relay teams.

In the throwing events, Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) was a force for the Buccaneers. He secured decisive victories in both the hammer throw (45.99m) and the discus (44.81m). He nearly completed the sweep with a strong second-place finish in the shot put (14.05m). Ian Phillips (Machesney Park, Ill.) provided excellent support, taking second place behind Martinez Marte in the hammer throw (42.62m) and adding a sixth-place finish in the discus (34.47m).

Beloit's success wasn't limited to sprints and throws. Sawyer Wall (Chicago, Ill.) put in a solid effort in the demanding 10,000m run, finishing fourth (38:46.26). Cooper Rathmann (Milwaukee, Wis.) earned a podium finish in the 3,000m steeplechase, placing third (10:48.34), and also competed in the pole vault, finishing seventh.

The middle-distance runners also contributed valuable points. Dylan Malmgren (Loves Park, Ill.) raced to third place in the 1,500m (4:09.99), with Aiden Cortinas (Sycamore, Ill.) coming in sixth (4:30.95). In the 800m run, Daniel secured fifth place (2:01.11), followed by Elijah Hartberg (Stoughton, Wis.) in eighth (2:13.36).

Field event points also came from Zewdie, who leaped to second place in the long jump (6.15m) and fifth in the triple jump (12.60m), in addition to his relay contribution. Cal Fox (Orfordville, Wis. ) added a second-place finish in the pole vault (3.43m).

Overall, it was an outstanding meet for Beloit College track and field, marked by dominant victories, record-setting times, and strong performances across nearly every event category, demonstrating the team's significant talent and competitive spirit.

The Bucs will run again next weekend at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
