Extra Base Hits Push Baseball Past Red Hawks

BELOIT, Wis. – The Beloit College baseball team utilized consistent offense and a decisive sixth-inning home run to secure a 6-2 victory over Ripon College on Sunday, April 13th, at home. The win pushes Beloit's overall record to 16-10 and levels their conference mark at 5-4.

Beloit chipped away early and pulled away late, scoring runs in five different innings. After scoreless frames to start, the Buccaneers broke through in the bottom of the third when Connor Vogel (Palmdale, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Brody Bremer (Mesa, Ariz.) who had singled earlier in the inning.

The lead doubled in the fourth. Following singles by Elijah Love (Madison, Wis.) and RJ Pouzar (Hartford, Wis.), Bremer delivered an RBI single through the left side, plating Love to make it 2-0.

Beloit added another run in the fifth. Aiden Wood (Chandler, Ariz.) singled and advanced to third on a pair of Ripon errors, eventually scoring on an RBI single by Love, pushing the score to 3-0.

The defining blow came in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Pouzar singled, Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) launched a home run, adding two crucial runs and extending Beloit's lead to 5-0.

Ripon finally got on the board with two unearned runs in the top of the seventh, capitalizing on a Beloit error. KylerHickman reached on the error, driving in Chase Hanselman, and Alex Pankratz followed with a sacrifice fly to score Jason Clark.

Beloit immediately answered back in the bottom of the seventh, with Love scoring the final run of the game on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a triple to right center.

On the mound, Beloit used a committee approach effectively. Starter Eamon Burke (Helena, Mont.) pitched four scoreless innings, scattering four hits and striking out one.Maddon McArthur (Redondo Beach, Calif.)  earned the win, pitching 1.2 innings. Despite Ripon scoring their runs during his appearance, both were unearned due to the preceding error. Harvey Pena (Riverside, Calif.) locked down the victory, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters to record his fifth save of the season. Erick Tiegs (Waukesha, Wis.) and Miles Souza (Carpinteria, Calif.) also contributed brief relief appearances.

For Ripon (10-1, 5-4), Hanselman and Clark each had two hits, with Hanselman scoring a run and hitting a double, while Clark also scored and stole a base. Starting pitcher Rex Bayer took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings.
