GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Beloit College track and field teams showcased their talent and depth with several outstanding performances, including multiple event victories, at the St. Norbert Invitational held on Saturday, at St. Norbert College.
The Buccaneers made their mark early and often, particularly in the sprints and relays. Sophomore standout Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) blazed to victory in the Men's 100 Meters, crossing the line first with a time of 10.84 seconds (+1.5 wind). Yearby nearly completed a sprint double, also taking a strong second place in the Men's 200 Meters with a time of 22.20 (+2.0).
Relay dominance was another theme for the Beloit men. The Men's 4x400 Meter Relay team, consisting of Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.), Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.), Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.), and Alexandre Atou (Abomey Calavi, Benin), captured first place with a winning time of 3:23.17. Earlier in the day, the Men's 4x100 Meter Relay 'A' team (Yearby, Atou, Ayouba Sumoaro (Las Vegas, NV), Oits secured a second-place finish in a swift 42.69 seconds. Beloit demonstrated impressive depth with 'B' and 'C' teams also competing in the 4x400, finishing 8th and 10th respectively. The 4x100 'C' team finished 6th, while the 'B' team suffered a disqualification.
Atou had a busy and successful day, contributing significantly in the relays and adding a fourth-place finish in the Men's 400 Meters (49.75). Otis was right behind him in fifth place (49.80).
On the women's side, junior Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.) delivered a commanding performance in the Women's 3000 Meters, winning the event decisively with a time of 11:41.60. De Montigny also competed well in the 1500 Meters, placing 10th (5:08.42). Senior Carter Browne (Hornell, N.Y.) added another strong distance result, finishing fourth in the Women's 3000m (12:17.08).
In the field events, sophomore Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) led the way for the Buccaneer women, placing fourth in the High Jump (1.50m) and competing in the Long Jump (18th, 4.58m). Junior Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) had a solid showing in the Women's Pole Vault, clearing 3.16m for eighth place, and also competed in the 100m Hurdles (14th, 18.20). Sophomore Haley Carlin (Sarasota, Fla.) placed 18th in the Pole Vault (2.56m) and 11th in the Javelin (27.19m).
For the men's field events, sophomore Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) had a consistent day in the throws, placing sixth in the Shot Put (13.78m), eighth in the Discus (43.65m), and sixth in the Hammer Throw (45.18m). Zewdie competed in multiple jumps, finishing 12th in the Long Jump (6.30m) and 11th in the Triple Jump (12.53m). Freshman Cal Fox (Orfordville, Wis.) took 14th in the Men's Pole Vault (3.28m).
The Buccaneers showcased strong individual efforts and relay teamwork throughout the competition, securing top finishes across various event groups and demonstrating promise as they continue their outdoor season.
The Bucs compete again on May 2nd at the Battle of the Bluffs hosted by the Univeristy of Dubuque.
