Volleyball Shows Grit in Loss to Loras

BELOIT, WI – The Beloit College volleyball team host Loras College this evening. Despite a valiant effort, the Bucs ultimately fell to the Duhawks in three sets (17-25, 23-25, 15-25) at Flood Arena. While the outcome wasn't what the Buccaneers hoped for, the match provided valuable early-season experience and highlighted areas for growth.

The Buccaneers (2-5, 0-0 MWC) fought hard throughout the contest, demonstrating resilience particularly in the second set where they pushed the Duhawks (4-7, 0-0 ARC) to a narrow 23-25 decision. Despite the loss, several Beloit players showcased strong individual efforts.

Leading Beloit's offensive efforts was Selin Tufte (Clarkdale, Ariz.), who impressively recorded 11 kills and also contributed defensively with 11 digs. Naomi Murphy (Dubuque, Iowa) was another standout on offense, delivering 8 kills on just 16 attempts for an excellent .500 hitting percentage. Kierra Rayne Hoover (Albuquerque, New Mexico) added 4 kills, while Emily Ortiz (Aurora, IL) contributed 1 kill with perfect efficiency (1.000 hitting percentage) and provided 4 assists. Kaylee Witte (Poplar Grove, Ill.) also chipped in with 3 kills and an assist.

Defensively, Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.) anchored the team with a leading 13 digs and 4 assists.

Beloit finished the match with 29 kills on 115 attempts, for a .113 hitting percentage. The team recorded 27 assists, 7 service aces, and 48 digs. Their blocking game saw them tally 2 total blocks, with Maddisyn Adams (Stockett, MT) and Murphy combining for one.

The Buccaneers showed flashes of potential, particularly in the tightly contested second set where they managed to keep pace with Loras.

The Bucs have a big weekend ahead, they will host a tri-match with MWC foe, Grinnell College and St. Mary's (IN) on Saturday. Game times are 11, 1 and 3 with the Bucs facing Grinnell in the first match and St. Mary's in the final match of the day.
