Women's Soccer Drops Conference Opener to Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Beloit College women's soccer team faced a challenging Monmouth College Fighting Scots team this afternoon, falling 3-1. Despite a strong second-half effort and a late goal, the Buccaneers (1-7-1, 0-1-0 MWC) were unable to overcome an early deficit against the Fighting Scots (5-3-1, 1-0-0 MWC).

From the whistle, Beloit found themselves under pressure. Monmouth opened the scoring early, netting a goal in the 9th minute. Monmouth struck again in the 26th minute extending thier lead. Monmouth took a 3-0 lead in the 31st minute, and held that heading into the break.

Beloit's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Sophia Dietz (Schaumburg, IL) in the first half and Kaya Williams (Cincinnati, OH) in the second, worked tirelessly throughout the match. Dietz made 3 saves in the first 45 minutes, while Williams tallied 5 crucial saves in the second half, demonstrating the Buccaneers' resilience.

The Buccaneers showcased their fighting spirit in the second half, creating more offensive opportunities and holding Monmouth scoreless. Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when Sarah Connors (Paso Robles, CA) found the back of the net, marking Beloit's first goal of the match. This unassisted goal was Connors' second of the season and a testament to the team's determination.

Key players for Beloit included Connors and Willow Mashkuri (Middlesex, Vt.), who were active in the attack. Connors registered 7 shots, 4 of which were on target, while Mashkuri had 5 shots with 2 on target. Defenders Meah Mora (Caldwell, ID) and Annie Lloyd (Orland Park, IL) played the full 90 minutes, providing a consistent presence in the back.

The Buccaneers are set to host the Lawrence Univeristy Vikings on Tuesday, September 30th at 4 pm.
