BELOIT, WI – In a hard-fought collegiate women's soccer match at Strong Soccer Field, Beloit College (1-7-2, 0-1-1 MWC) battled Lawrence (3-3-5, 1-0-1 MWC) to a 0-0 draw.
From the opening whistle, both teams exhibited intense effort, but it was Beloit's defense and goalkeeping that truly shone. Sophia Dietz (Schaumburg, IL), Beloit's goalkeeper, was a standout performer, making an impressive 7 saves throughout the 90 minutes. Her crucial interventions kept the Vikings off the scoreboard, facing 24 shots in total, with 9 on target.
While Lawrence held a statistical edge in total shots (24 to Beloit's 13) and corner kicks (8 to 4), the Buccaneers' defense remained unyielding. Players like Meah Mora (Caldwell, ID), and Zyana Turcios (Elmwood Park, Ill.) anchored the backline, limiting quality scoring opportunities for the Vikings. The midfield, featuring athletes such as Willow Mashkuri (Middlesex, Vt.) and Calypso Ayoung (Santa Cruz, Trinidad and Tobago), worked tirelessly to disrupt Lawrence's rhythm and initiate offensive transitions.
Beloit's offensive efforts were led by players like Grace Christos (Valporariso, IN), who registered a shot on target, and Keira Werner (Piper, KS), who also tested the Lawrence goalkeeper. Although unable to find the back of the net, the Buccaneers' 13 shots, with 9 on target, indicate a persistent drive to create scoring chances.
The Buccaneers move ahead in MWC action, hosting the Knox College Prairie Fire on Saturday at the Strong Complex Soccer Field. Kick off for that match is set for 1 pm.
