Yearby Sets School Record in the 200, Buccaneers Dominate Red Hawks

RIPON, Wis. - The Beloit College track and field teams continued their strong start to the 2026 indoor season this afternoon, delivering a powerhouse performance at the Ripon Alumni Dial. Competing at the Willmore Center in Ripon, Wisconsin, the Buccaneers showcased their depth and veteran leadership, securing multiple first-place finishes and dominating both on the track and in the field.

For the men, junior Josh Yearby (West Park, FL) proved to be the fastest man in the building, pulling off a spectacular sweep of the short sprints. Yearby claimed gold in the 60-meter dash with a blistering time of 6.90 seconds, fending off a strong field from host Ripon. He followed that performance by taking the top spot in the 200-meter dash, posting a new school record, 22.24.

Supporting the sprint charge, senior Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) secured another victory for the Buccaneers in the 400-merter dash. Otis clocked in at 53.27 seconds, demonstrating the speed and endurance that have makes him a staple of the Buccaneers.

Beloit's success extended into the middle-distance and distance events.  Sophomore Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.) put on a clinical performance in the 800-meter run, winning the event with a time of 1:59.29. Behind him, senior Max Muszynski (Milwaukee, Wis.) secured second place (2:09.27), while Sawyer Wall (Chicago, Ill.) rounded out the top three to complete a Beloit podium sweep.

In the longest event of the day, sophomore Dylan Malmgren (Loves Park, Ill.) showcased his grit in the 3000-meter run. Malmgren took first place with a time of 11:09.71, maintaining a steady pace to distance himself from the competition.

The Buccaneers were equally imposing in the field. Junior Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) was the standout athlete of the meet, achieving a "double-gold" performance in the throwing circles. Martinez won the Shot Put with a toss of 15.28 meters and followed it up with a victory in the Weight Throw recording a mark of 15.37 meters.

In the jumps, sophomore John Deary II (Westwego, LA) continued his impressive season by winning the Long Jump with a mark of 6.50 meters. Senior Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.) also added to the team's point total with a second-place finish in the Triple Jump with a jump of 11.78 meters.

The Buccaneers closed out the day with a strong showing in the 4x200-meter relay.  The "A" squad, featuring Otis, Zewdie, Deary, and Ayouba Sumoaro (Las Vegas, NV), battled to a second-place finish with a time of 1:38.44.

On the women's side, the Buccaneers' sprinting corps set the tone early in the day. Freshman Syniyah Quenga (Urbana, IL) emerged as a standout, capturing first place in the 60-meter dash with a blazing time of 8.16 seconds. Beloit effectively locked down the podium in the event, with fellow freshman Allie Roberts taking second (8.71) and junior Yaa Akosa (Nungua, Ghana) finishing third (9.51).

In the middle-distance events, Beloit continued to outpace the competition. Junior Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.) took the crown in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:31.74. The Buccaneers also dominated the mile, led by freshman Addie Bogda, who secured first place with a time of 5:48.89. She was followed closely by senior teammate Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.), who took the runner-up spot in 5:49.86.

Beloit's success was not limited to the track. Junior Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla) led the charge in the field events, winning the pole vault with a top mark of 3.03 meters. Haley Carlin (Sarasota, Fla.) added to the point total with a second-place finish in the same event, clearing 2.58 meters, while also placing second in the 60-meter hurdles (10.39).

In the throwing circles, sophomore Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.) proved to be a dual threat. Schmitt earned second-place finishes in both the shot put (10.49 m) and the weight throw (12.74m), consistently providing high-level marks for the Buccaneers.

To cap off a successful outing, the Beloit "A" relay squad—composed of Quenga, Roberts, Niomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Akosa -- claimed victory in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:56.38,  finishing nearly eight seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.

The Buccaneers are back in action next Saturday when they head up the road to UW-Whitewater for the Karl Schlender Invitational. Action from the Kachel Fieldhouse is set for 11 am.
