Men's Hockey Slams the Door on Terriers

JANESVILLE, WI – In a dominant display of discipline and offensive efficiency, the Beloit College Buccaneers orchestrated a masterclass on ice this afternoon, shutting out the Hiram College Terriers 5-0 at the Woodman's Sports & Convention Center.

From the opening puck drop, the Buccaneers (4-12-1) controlled the tempo, outshooting the Terriers 45-23 and capitalizing on special teams to secure their most convincing win of the season.

Beloit wasted no time asserting their will. Just over two minutes into the contest, Hiram's bench was whistled for having too many players on the ice—a mistake the Buccaneers punished immediately. At the 02:46 mark, Valerii Kneib (Dmitrov, Russia) found the back of the net on the power play, assisted by Zach Hutchinson (West Salem, WI), to give Beloit a 1-0 lead.

The momentum stayed firmly with the Buccaneers throughout the first frame. Trey Taylor (Abbotsford, BC) doubled the lead at 14:32 with an even-strength goal off a feed from Mac Reed (Waunakee, WI). By the end of the first period, Beloit had established a staggering 18-5 advantage in shots on goal, leaving Hiram reeling.

While the second period remained scoreless, it served as the game's critical momentum shift. Hiram attempted to claw their way back, doubling their offensive output with 10 shots in the period. However, Beloit goaltender Mitch Taylor (Hamburg, NY) stood tall, turning aside every attempt to preserve the shutout.

The Buccaneers' defensive corps, led by Johnny Thrasher (Mautson, WI) and Sam Holy (Chicago, IL), remained disciplined despite a five-minute major penalty. Beloit's penalty kill was impeccable, frustrating the Terriers and effectively draining Hiram's energy heading into the final intermission.

Beloit entered the third period looking to finish the job, and they did so with clinical precision. Joe Weber (Rochester, NY) extended the lead to 3-0 at 09:06 on another power play, assisted by Ben Stewart (Dayton, OH) and Nathan Hinze (Chaska, MN).

As Hiram grew desperate, pulling their goalie for an extra attacker late in the game, Beloit's Mac Reed (Waunakee, WI) showcased elite awareness. At 16:17, while Beloit was short-handed, Reed fired a shot into the empty net to make it 4-0. The rout was punctuated at 18:00 when George Haigley (Cockeysville, MD) added a second empty-netter, finalizing the 5-0 scoreline.

The Buccaneers step back into WIAC play on Friday when they head to UW-Eau Claire. Puck drop is set for 7 pm.
