WHITWATER, WI – On a high-octane Friday of collegiate track and field action, the Beloit College Buccaneers Men's Track and Field team made their presence felt across nearly every discipline. Led by a dominant performance from Josh Yearby (West Park, FL), the Buccaneers secured several top-three finishes and a slew of personal records (PR) against a competitive field including UW-Whitewater, UW-Stevens Point, and North Central (Ill.).
The story of the day for Beloit was undoubtedly Yearby The junior standout claimed the individual title in the 200 Meter, clocking a blistering 22.24 to take the gold.
Yearby was equally impressive in the 60 Meter, where he secured a runner-up finish with a time of 6.81, breaking the school record for the second weekend in a row. He entered the finals after a strong showing in the prelims, where he posted a 6.92a.
In the 400 Meters, senior Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) showcased his veteran poise. Otis powered his way to a second-place finish, crossing the line in 50.55, a new seasons best.
The Buccaneers also saw strong depth in the long sprints. Senior Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.) recorded a seasons best in the 400m with a time of 54.50 (20th place), while sophomore Conall Witherite (Round Lake, IL) notched a Personal Record of 56.33 (24th place).
Beloit's success wasn't limited to the track. Sophomore John Deary II (Westwego, LA) had a career day in the Long Jump, leaping to a Personal Record distance of 6.92m to finish 3rd overall. He also showed his versatility on the track, placing 23rd in the 200m with a PR of 24.02.
In the throwing circles, junior Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) led the charge. Martinez earned a 6th-place finish in the Shot Put with a toss of 14.96m. He followed that up with a strong 10th-place finish in the Weight Throw recording a distance of 15.38m.
The Buccaneers' middle-distance crew also saw significant improvement. Sophomore Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.) cracked the top 10 in a deep 800
meter field, finishing 7th with a Personal Record of 1:58.24.
In the longest event of the day, the 3000 Meter, freshman Leo Ramos continued his development, finishing with a Personal Record of 9:19.36.
The Beloit Women wrap up action at the Squig Converse Invite today. Both teams are back in action at the Spartan Shootout next Saturday.
