Men's Lacrosse Defeats Alma for Second Straight Win

BELOIT, Wis. – In a commanding display of defensive grit and offensive precision, the Beloit College Buccaneers overcame an early deficit to defeat Alma College 10-3 at Strong Stadium this morning. After a back-and-forth opening period, the Buccaneers' defense completely neutralized the Scots, holding them scoreless for the final 45 minutes of play.

The story of the game was the impenetrable wall built by the Beloit defense and goalkeeper Christian Moore (Dubuque, Iowa). While Alma managed to sneak three goals past in the first quarter, Moore became a vacuum in the crease for the remainder of the contest. Moore finished the day with an impressive 15 saves, frustrating the Scots' shooters at every turn.

Supporting the defensive effort was Cristian Lewis (Seattle, WA), who was a force in the middle of the field. Lewis led all players with a staggering 10 ground balls, ensuring Beloit maintained possession and kept the pressure off their defensive zone.

Offensively, the Buccaneers were powered by their offensive powerhouse, Liam Walker (Elmhurst, Ill.). Walker was clinical, finding the back of the net four times to lead all scorers.

Beloit's scoring began in the first quarter when Samuel Slabaugh (Lexington, Ky.) fired home a shot off a slick assist from Ryder Story (Salem, Ore.). Shortly after, Story showcased his own individual brilliance, netting an unassisted goal to keep the Buccaneers within striking distance as the first period ended 3-2 in favor of Alma.

The momentum swung permanently in Beloit's favor during the second quarter. John Imbriale (Brooklyn, NY) tied the game at 3-3 with an unassisted strike early in the period. The definitive moment came at the 1:56 mark of the second when Walker capitalized on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Rilan Larmore (Olympia, Wash.), to give Beloit a 4-3 lead—a lead they would never relinquish.

The Buccaneers continued to pull away in the second half. In the third quarter, Walker took over, scoring two consecutive goals—one assisted by Imbriale and another by Samuel Van Der Kolk (Grand Haven, Mich.)—to extend the lead to 6-3. In the final frame, Beloit turned a comfortable lead into a rout. Larmore opened the final frame with a goal (assisted by George Haigley (Cockeysville, MD)), followed by another Imbriale strike and Walker's fourth goal of the day. Story put the finishing touches on the victory with a late goal assisted by Larmore, bringing the final tally to 10-3.

With this victory, Beloit moves to 2-0 on the season. The loss moves the Scots to 0-4. The Buccaneers' ability to dominate the ground ball battle (38-28) and their clinical execution on clears (20-for-24) proved to be the difference maker.

The Buccaneers are back in action on Wednesday, March 4th on the road against Carroll Univeristy. Game time from Schneider Stadium in Waukesha is set for 7 pm.
