Baseball Explodes for Run-Rule Win Over Ripon

RIPON, WI – The Beloit College Buccaneers showcased a masterclass in offensive efficiency and defensive poise this afternoon, dismantling Ripon College (3-18, 2-6 MWC) 12-1 in a shortened seven-inning contest. With a relentless 16-hit attack and a commanding performance on the mound by Will Lyng (Helena, MT), Beloit improved their season record to 15-12 (8-3 MWC).

After a scoreless first inning, the Beloit offense ignited in the top of the second, putting the game out of reach early with a six-run explosion. The scoring began when Nolan Tomsyck (Muskego, Wis) doubled to right field to bring home Aiden Wood (Chandler, Ariz.). Shortly after, Brody Bremer (Mesa, Ariz.) drove in Parker Krcmar (Waupaca, Wis.) with an RBI single.

The momentum continued as lead-off hitter Jack Alport (Arlington Heights, Ill.) delivered a clutch two-RBI single to center, scoring both Drew Hanson (Edgerton, Wis.) and Tomsyck. The Buccaneers added two more in the frame via a Jacopo Tamburini (Bologna, Italy) groundout and a Seth Brankey (Salem, Wis.) RBI double, ending the second inning with a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Buccaneers refused to let up, adding three more runs in the third inning. Bremer and Brankey both recorded sacrifice flies, while Tamburini showed plate discipline by drawing an RBI walk with the bases loaded. By the time Blake Nelson (Monument, CO.) cleared the bases with a two-RBI double in the fifth, the Buccaneers had secured a massive 11-run cushion.

While the hitters provided the run support, starting pitcher Lyng was the definition of efficiency. Lyng pitched a complete seven-inning game, surrendering only one run on four hits. Perhaps most impressively, Lyng didn't issue a single walk and needed only 69 pitches to dismantle the Ripon lineup, earning his third win of the season.

The Buccaneers sit in second place in the conference standings, behind Grinnell. The Bucs and Pioneers meet this weekend in Grinnell, Iowa for a three game clash. Games one and two are set for Saturday at 12 and 2:30 with the series concluding on Sunday at noon.

The Bucs are set to host Knox College tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm.
