Track and Field Open Outdoor Season at Wisconsin Private Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. — It was a banner day for the Beloit College Buccaneers, as the track and field program delivered a series of dominant performances, podium finishes, and personal milestones at their first outdoor meet of the 2026 season. 

The Buccaneer men were a force on the track, particularly in the sprint and middle-distance sectors. Josh Yearby (Hollywood, FL) asserted his dominance in the 100-meter dash, taking first place with a blistering season-best time of 10.71 seconds. He was followed closely by teammates Ayouba Sumoaro (Las Vegas, NV) (11.49s, SB) and Izzy Zewdie (Las Vegas, Nev.) (11.51s, SB), who finished 5th and 6th respectively.

In the 800 meters, Kembre Daniel (Chicago, Ill.) outclassed the field to take the top spot with a time of 1:58.49. The Buccaneers nearly swept the top of the leaderboard in the event, asAnton Witzel (Erfurt, Germany) secured 3rd place with a personal-best 2:01.15, and Cooper Rathmann (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished 5th in 2:04.83.

The success continued in the 1500 meters, where Dylan Malmgren (Loves Park, Ill.) grabbed a silver medal finish, clocking a personal-best 4:03.37. On the hurdles side, Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) proved untouchable in the 400m hurdles, winning the event in 54.35 seconds.

The Beloit women's team was led by a standout performance from freshman Syniyah Quenga (Urbana, IL) in the 100-meter dash. Quenga blazed to a 2nd place finish with a time of 13.16 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.) and Allie Roberts both cracked the top ten, with Gama taking 3rd (1:02.49) and Roberts taking 7th (1:03.17). 

Middle distance runner Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.) led the way in the 1500 meters for the women, finishing 10th with a season-best 5:14.77, followed by Addie Bogda (Collierville, TN) in 12th (5:25.05, PB).

In the field, Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.) was a workhorse for the Buccaneers, placing 7th in the hammer throw (35.37m), 11th in the discus (30.50m), and 16th in the shot put (9.80m). Reagan Lamb also showed significant improvement, recording personal bests in the discus (24.71m) and hammer throw (29.29m).

Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) was the star of the men's field events. He claimed victory in the discus with a toss of 47.43 meters and added a 2nd place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.43 meters.

The Buccaneers also found success in the jumping pits. Andrew Arhebun (Chicago, Ill.) took 2nd place in the long jump with a season-best leap of 5.98 meters, while Will Carrion Jr (Florida City, FL)(5.65m) and Zewdie (5.64m) finished 7th and 8th respectively. In the hammer throw, Ian Phillips (Machesney Park, Ill.) took 3rd place with a personal-best distance of 45.39 meters. 

The Beloit relay teams put the finishing touches on a successful day. The Men's 4x400m relay team (Daniel, Otis, Witzel and Zewdie) took 1st place with a combined time of 3:34.25. In the 4x100m relay, the Men's "A" team secured 2nd place (43.40s) and the Women's "B" team (Yaa Akosa (Nungua, Ghana), Magali Le Bas, Ellie Ousley (Skokie, Ill.), and  Najeebah Junaid) earned a 3rd place podium finish with a time of 52.38s. 

With a massive haul of personal bests and several event victories, the Buccaneers head into the heart of the outdoor season with significant momentum.

They are back in action at Strong Stadium on Friday, April 11th for their annual Beloit Relays. Field events are set to start at 3:30 pm.
