DE PERE, WI – The Beloit College track and field teams traveled to De Pere today, to compete in the St. Norbert College Invitational. Facing a field of eleven competitive programs, the Buccaneers showcased their depth and athleticism, with the women's team finishing in 6th place overall with 45 points and the men's team securing 8th place with 35 points.
The Buccaneers saw standout performances on the track, particularly in the distance and sprint categories. Simone de Montigny (Neenah, Wis.) provided a major highlight in the Women's 5000 Meters, capturing a 2nd-place finish with an impressive time of 18:58.15, earning 8 points for the team.
In the sprints, freshman Syniyah Quenga (Urbana, IL) had a stellar day. She took 2nd place in the Women's 200 Meters with a blistering time of 25.56 and followed it up with a 6th-place finish in the 100 Meters, crossing the line in 12.75. On the men's side, Ayouba Sumoaro (Las Vegas, NV) proved to be one of the fastest in the field, taking 4th place in the 100 Meters with a time of 11.21.
Beloit's relay teams were a major source of scoring throughout the meet, demonstrating impressive chemistry and speed. The Women's 4x100m 'A' team, featuring Naomee Casey (Broken Arrow, Okla), Allie Roberts, Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.), and Quenga, earned a third-place finish with a time of 51.40. The men's 4x100m squad was equally competitive, as Sumoaro, John Deary II (Avondale, LA), Andrew Arhebun (Chicago, Ill.), and Will Carrion Jr (Florida City, FL) secured fourth place with a time of 45.23. In the longer 4x400m relay, the women's team—consisting of Roberts, Quenga, Cole Miller (Salem, Ore.), and Gama—fought for another fourth-place finish, clocking in at 4:15.80. Finally, the men's 4x400m 'A' team, led by Anton Witzel (Erfurt, Germany), Deary, Conall Witherite (Round Lake, IL), and Jeremy Mueller (Loves Park, Ill.), rounded out the relay performances by taking eighth place with a time of 3:43.74.
In the field events, Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.) was a force to be reckoned with. He earned the Buccaneers' highest field placement of the day by taking 2nd place in the Men's Discus with a massive throw of 49.04m. Martinez also added a 4th-place finish in the Hammer Throw (49.76m) and 6th place in the Shot Put (14.40m).
The Buccaneers also saw a wealth of strong finishes across several other field disciplines. Ian Phillips (Machesney Park, Ill.) had a productive afternoon, claiming sixth place in the Men's Hammer Throw with a distance of 47.91m and securing 10th in the Shot Put at 13.55m. On the jump runway, Deary II leaped to a sixth-place finish in the Men's Long Jump with a mark of 6.64m. Beloit's javelin throwers were equally effective, led by Haley Carlin's (Sarasota, Fla.) seventh-place throw of 30.09m and closely followed by Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.), who took eighth in the event with a distance of 29.38m while also placing 16th in the Discus (31.84m). Rounding out the field highlights, Na. Casey cleared 3.20m in the Women's Pole Vault to earn a 10th-place finish.
The Buccaneers head to their final regular season meet next weekend. They will compete at the Fighting Scot Outdoor Invitational in Monmouth, Illinois. Action from April Zorn Memorial Stadium is set to kick off at 10:30am.
