Box Score The Beloit College women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Northwestern-St. Paul 15-9 to pick up their first win of the season under the lights at Strong Stadium Friday.
The Eagles notched the first goal of the game but Beloit responded with a goal by Fiona Milchman off an assist by Katie LaCost with 24:04 showing on the clock in the first period. The teams traded goals to round out the first 10 minutes of action with Morgan Nicholson notching her first of six goals in the game at the 22:33 mark followed by the equalizer from UNW with 21:37 on the clock.
Olivia Nasatir gave Beloit the lead, 3-2, on an unassisted goal with 17:27 remaining in the half and the Bucs never looked back. Kaitlyn Tomasin-Erickson tallied her first goal of the season in unassisted fashion with 13:08 showing on the clock. Just over three minutes later, the Bucs struck again with Milchman finding Nicholson for an open shot to take advantage on a man-up opportunity and make it 5-2.
Beloit extended the lead to 6-2 as Tomasin-Erickson found the back of the net once again and just 30 seconds later, Nicole Dolcimascolo got in on the action with a free position goal with 8:04 remaining. Dolcimascolo made good on a pass from Milchman for her second goal in less than three minutes to push the lead to 8-2. Nicholson registered her third goal of the half at the 2:43 mark but UNW countered a minute later to make it 9-3. The Bucs took that six-goal lead into halftime.
Nicholson had a hand in the first three goals of the second half with an assist sandwiched between two goals that widened the gap to 12-3. The Eagles fired back with two of their own but Milchman and Nicholson teamed on another scoring opportunity with 12:14 remaining in the game to give the Bucs a 13-5 advantage.
The Bucs and Eagles traded two goals apiece in just over two minutes of play to make the score 15-7. UNW tallied the final two goals of the game as the Buccaneers held on for their first win of the season.
Nicholson led Beloit with eight points including six goals. Dolcimascolo made good on three scoring opportunities. Milchman added two goals and three helpers while Nasatir and Tomasin-Erickson recorded two goals each in the game. Alexa Arakelian picked up her first collegiate win in net with 11 saves in the contest.
Beloit is scheduled to host Carroll University Wednesday, April 4 for another game under the lights at Strong Stadium. Start time is slated for 7 p.m.
