Box Score The Beloit College women's lacrosse team fell just shy of erasing a five-goal first half deficit in a 14-11 loss at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa Saturday afternoon.
Coming out of halftime trailing 8-3, the Buccaneers' offense got to work in the second half. Nicole Dolcimascolo answered a Duhawk goal with 27:51 showing on the clock. Loras scored again at the 18:36 mark but Kaitlin Frey and Morgan Nicholson responded with back-to-back goals just 13 seconds apart midway through the 17th minute to pull to within four, 10-6.
A little over a minute later, at 15:17, Dolcimascolo found the back of the net again to narrow the gap to 10-7. Kieran Rodning made good on a free position shot with 12:04 remaining bringing the score to 10-8.
Loras halted Beloit's comeback with a goal at 8:48 but Nicholson had the answer just a minute later taking the draw control all the way to the net to keep the margin at two, 11-9 with just under eight minutes remaining.
The teams traded goals with Loras tallying their 12th goal at the 6:00 mark but it took Nicholson just 11 seconds to strike again off an assist by Rodning. Another free position attempt taken by Rodning ended with the ball in the back of the net at 4:46 brought the Bucs to within one, 12-11, but the Duhawks would register the final two goals in the final two minutes of the game.
Nicholson's four goals in the game move her into second in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference goal scoring category with 32 on the season. Dolcimascolo tallied three goals and an assist in the game. Her 24 goals in 2018 is tied for seventh most in the league this season. Rodning netted two goals on free position shots and added a helper while Fiona Milchman recorded a goal and assist and Frey registered a goal. Alexa Arakelian made 14 saves in the game.
