The Beloit College softball team had everything working Sunday in a sweep of Knox College on the road. The Buccaneers took the opener 8-0 in five innings before winning the nightcap 6-4.
The Buccaneer offense surged in the first game opening the day with five runs in the first frame. Sidda Meyers led off the game with a single followed by a Prairie Fire miscue on
Briana Arteaga's sacrifice bunt try.
Emily Stapay took advantage of the error with a RBI single. Another miscue with one out brought in the second run of the game.
Isabel Johnson walked to load the bases and
Maddie Moser singled to drive in a pair.
Sydney Harbison wrapped up the scoring in the first inning as the Bucs hit through the order with a RBI single to make it 5-0.
Meyers was the catalyst again in the top of the fourth leading off the inning with a double. Arteaga followed with a single and swiped second before
Stephannie Lopez drew a walk to load the bases. Stapay registered a sacrifice fly.
Angela Donath singled to plate one more and another Knox error made it 8-0 Beloit.
Meyers and Arteaga each tallied two hits and combined for fours runs to lead the Buc offense.
Maddy Pfortmiller pitched a gem three-hitting the Prairie Fire while striking out four in four innings of work for the win.
Helena Harrison closed out the game with the final inning in the circle.
Pfortmiller headed back to the circle for the second game of the twinbill picking up her second win of the day. Allowing three earned runs, Pfortmiller struck out seven and walked a single batter in seven innings of work.
The Bucs held the lead throughout the game with Harbison opening the scoring with a sacrifice bunt that brought in Johnson. Meyers singled for a RBI in the next at bat to give Beloit a 2-0 lead.
Beloit added another run in the fourth off of a Lopez single. Knox got on the board in the fifth with a pair of runs but the Bucs responded in the sixth, doubling up their score. Another bunt, this time from Lopez plated the first run of the frame before
Kaitlynn Taft and Johnson singled runs in to make it 6-2.
Knox would add two in the sixth but the Bucs' defense held on for the win.
Meyers and Arteaga added to their fantastic days at the plate combining for seven hits and two runs scored in the nightcap. Lopez, Taft and Johnson added two hits each for the Bucs.
