The Buccaneer softball team picked up a league sweep taking two games at Lawrence University Wednesday afternoon. Beloit's offense exploded for a 14-2, five inning, win in the opener and followed with a 4-1 win in the nightcap.
The opener was a close game through three innings. Then the offense came to life and it became a hit parade for the Bucs. Beloit plated six runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth to put the run rule into effect.
The Bucs blasted 16 hits in the game including three doubles. Ten Beloit hitters registered hits led by
Kaitlynn Taft's 3-4 game at the plate. She added a RBI and three runs scored.
Stephannie Lopez and
Zoe Landolt both posted a pair of hits and tallied three runs batted in to bolster the offensive surge.
Maddy Pfortmiller struck up six without issuing a walk while allowing two runs in the complete five inning win. The righty ace has not issued a free base in her last three appearances in the circle.
Taft got things going in game two with a solo blast to left field that gave Beloit a 1-0 lead in the first.
Lawrence knotted the game 1-1 on a groundout in the third but Beloit had the response plating three runs in the top of the fourth. With one out, Taft reached on a Viking miscue and advanced to second after
Isabel Johnson took one for the team.
Cora Aubert singled up the middle and another miscue on the play had two runners coming in to score and Aubert booking it all the way to third. She touched home on a fielder's choice RBI from
Maddie Moser to give the Bucs a 4-1 lead.
Aubert and the Bucs' defense allowed just one runner to make it to third base the rest of the way, shutting down the Lawrence offense for the win.
Taft led the Bucs at the dish going 2-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
Aubert struck out four allowing just one run while scattering seven hits across seven innings of work in the circle to pick up the win.
