The Beloit College softball team opened a road weekend with a pair of losses at Illinois College Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneers fell in the opener 10-1 (five innings) before dropping the nightcap 7-3.
The Lady Blue pitching and defense held Beloit to just three hits in the first game. Sidda Meyers,
Emily Stapay and
Kaitlynn Taft each tallied hits in the contest. Taft's shot was a double that plated
Angela Donath who had come in to run for Stapay.
Kit Kronberger suffered the loss on the mound to move to 0-2 on the season.
IC took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning in the nightcap. The Bucs responded to take the lead in the top of the next frame.
Isabel Johnson singled in a run followed by a
Hannah Beran bunt single for the second and Meyers' base knock brought in another to give Beloit a 3-2 advantage.
The Bucs offense stalled after the second while the Lady Blues were able to push five across in the final six innings of play for the final.
Meyers led Beloit with two of the squad's seven hits in the contest.
Maddy Pfortmiller suffered the loss on the mound allowed four earned runs while fanning three in the complete game.
