BELOIT, Wis.- The Beloit College Swimming and Diving teams hosted the Midseason Championships that ran Thursday-Saturday this weekend. A pair of talented Buccaneers continued to rewrite the record books, breaking a total of six records. The Women finished the weekend with a total of 575 points, enough for first place. The men tallied 156 points, finishing in 4th place.
Thursday night featured only one event, the three meter dives.
Helena Harrison (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and
India David (St. Paul, MN.) dove for the Bucs. Harrison set a new school record with 227.75 while finishing in 1st. David followed Harrison in 2nd place, with a score of 181.60.
The Friday events consisted of the 200 Free Relay, 100 Fly, 200 Breast, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 IM and 500 Free. In between sessions, the 1 meter dives took place. Harrison and David placed in the 1M. Harrison set her 2nd and final record on the weekend, scoring a 387.25 and finishing in 1st. David placed 3rd with a score of 320.45.
Jeremy Mueller (Machesney Park, Ill.) continued to shatter school records. His first of the weekend was in the 100 Fly, he swam a 50.89, finishing almost 2 seconds ahead of the second place swimmer. In the Women's 100 Fly,
Abbey Scott (Oswego, Ill.) and
Nora Krystowiak (Kenosha, Wis.) finished 3rd and 4th (1:09.52, 1:10.11).
Colin Bolger (Palatine, Ill.) placed 3rd in the Men's 200 Breast, touching the wall in 2:27.96.
Lylah Murrah (North Pole, AK) placed 2nd in the Women's 200 Breast with a time of 2:41.07. Mueller set his second record of the day in the 100 Free, swimming it in 45.95. Murrah and
Maclaryn Leonard (South Beloit, Ill.) finished 2nd and 3rd in the 200 IM with times of 2:24.83 and 2:30.25.
Saturday wrapped up the meet with the prelims and finals of the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 50 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 200 Free, 200 Fly, 400 Free Relay and the 1650 Free.
Bolger and Murrah won their respective 400 IMs. Bolger in 4:49.68 and Murrah in 5:07.63. Mueller broke the oldest school record on the board (1986) in the Men's 50 Free, swimming a 21.07. Leonard finished 2nd in the Women's 50 Free at 26.24. Murrah continued to sweep her events, swimming a 1:11.79 in the Women's 100 Breast. Mueller broke his fourth and final record on the weekend in the Men's 200 Free, finishing nearly 8 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher with a 1:41.64.
The Buccaneers will rest and regroup before heading to Jacksonville, Ill. for the Illinois College Winter Invite on December 9th.
