BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Swimming and Diving teams kicked off the 2024-25 season this afternoon when they hosted the Lawrence University Vikings in their first dual meet of the season and their first meet under head coach Dan Vale. Combined, the Buccaneers took home seven first place finishes and seven second place finishes.
The MWC Female Diver of the Year from a season ago,
Helena Harrison (Chapel Hill, N.C.), took home first in both the 1m and 3m dives, breaking her own school record in the 1m with a score of 212.35. She followed that up with a score of 209.40 in the 3m. Finishing close behind her in both events was
India David (St. Paul, MN.), David scored a 191.50 in 1m and 180.30 in 3m. Freshman
Elsa Gregory took third in her 1m debut with a 180.20.
In the individual swimming events, Senior
Nora Krystowiak (Kenosha, Wis.) took 2nd in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle, clocking in at 2:15.23 for the 200 and 6:05.90 for the 500. Senior
Maclaryn Leonard (South Beloit, Ill.) swam to second in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 26.34 seconds. Freshmen
Alaina Neumann and
Kelsey Gerstler did well in their collegiate debuts Neuman took second in the 100 Backstroke at 1:09.54 while Gerster earned second in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:17.42.
The Buccaneer women saw first place finishes from Sophomore
Lylah Murrah (North Pole, AK) in the 200 IM and Freshman
Lydia Nordgren in the 100 Freestyle. Murrah swam a 2:27.42 to win by over a second. Nordgren recorded a 57.72.
The women took the top time in both relays swam today. Neumann, Murrah, Nordgren and Leonard combined for a time of 1:56.81 in the 200 Medley Relay and the same group won the 200 Freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.81.
The 2023-24 MWC Men's Newcomer of the Year,
Jeremy Mueller (Machesney Park, Ill.) continued his dominance in the pool, taking first in the men's 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:46.82.
The Buccaneers head to Ripon, Wis. next weekend for a dual meet against the Red Hawks. The first event is set to start at 1 pm in Kohler Pool.
