MONMOUTH, Ill. - In a closely contested women's swimming meet this evening, Beloit College emerged victorious over Monmouth College with a final score of 88-83. The men's competition saw Monmouth dominate with a 111-30 win over Beloit.
The Beloit women were led by freshman standout
Lydia Nordgren (South Beloit, Ill.), who had an impressive showing in multiple events. Nordgren captured first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.26 seconds and dominated the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 59.19. She also contributed to Beloit's winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, which finished with a time of 1:47.74.
Sophomore
Lylah Murrah (North Pole, AK) and freshman
Kelsey Gerstler also delivered strong performances for Beloit. Murrah secured second place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.93), while Gerstler showed her endurance with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:54.12).
On the men's side,
Jeremy Mueller (Machesney Park, Ill.) was a bright spot for Beloit, winning two individual events. The sophomore touched first in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.89) and the 100-yard backstroke (54.74). Senior
Ethan Casler (Mundelein, Ill.) contributed points for Beloit with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.47).
The meet featured several close races, including the women's 500-yard freestyle where three Beloit swimmers - Gerstler,
Nora Krystowiak (Kenosha, Wis.), and
Lucy Monnig (Beaverton, Ore.) - finished within striking distance of each other. The depth of Beloit's women's team proved crucial in securing their overall victory.
The Buccaneers face a quick turnaround as they host Loras tomorrow afternoon for Senior Day. The meet is set to start at 1 pm.
