Buccaneers Make Waves at Wisconsin Private Championships

KENOSHA, WI – The Wisconsin Private Championships, held this past weekend at Carthage College, saw fierce competition and impressive performances across the board. While multiple schools vied for top honors, the Beloit College Buccaneers showcased their depth and talent, securing numerous podium finishes and making their presence known throughout the meet. The women finished the meet placing third out of six teams. 

The Buccaneers' strength in the diving well was undeniable. On the 1-meter board, Beloit claimed the second, third, and fourth places, led by Helena Harrison (Chapel Hill, N.C.) with an impressive score of 321.00, closely followed by Elsa Gregory (296.85) and India David (St. Paul, MN.) (266.95). This was followed up by a similar performance on the 3-meter board, where Beloit once again secured two of the top three slots, with Harrison (328.10) earning gold, followed by India David (281.40).

The team's depth showed in the women's 200 freestyle relay. The Buccaneers finished in a strong fifth place with a time of 1:45.43, with a team that included Maclaryn Leonard (South Beloit, Ill.), Amelia Pullen (New Orleans, La.), Lylah Murrah (North Pole, AK), and Lydia Nordgren (South Beloit, Ill.).

The Buccaneers' performance wasn't limited to diving and relays. Individual swimmers secured valuable points throughout the meet. Jeremy Mueller (Machesney Park, Ill.) put forth an impressive effort in the men's 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in first place (1:44.10). Nordgren, in addition to her relay contributions, had a solid performance on her own in the 100 fly with a 59.08 and in the 200 IM, finishing third with a time of 2:16.65. Beloit's distance swimmers also showed promise with Lucy Monnig (Beaverton, Ore.) finishing 18th in the 500 yard freestyle. Monnig also showed up in the 200 IM, and a 7th place finish for Kelsey Gerstler in the same event.

    - Women's 3-Meter Diving: 1st Place - Helena Harrison (328.10), 3rd Place - India David (281.40)
    - Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay: 4th Place - Leonard, Murrah, Nordgren, Pullen (1:55.98)
    - Women's 400 Yard Medley Relay:  4th Place - Leonard, Murrah,  Nordgren, Gerstler (4:22.23)
    - Women's 200 IM: 3rd Place - Lydia Nordgren (2:16.65)
    - Women's 100 Yard Butterfly: 1st Place - Lydia Nordgren (59:08)


The Buccaneers don't return to the water until February 21st for day 1 of the Midwest Conference Championships. This years championships will be held at Grinnell College and the Russell K. Osgood Pool and Deck/Natatorium.
