WHITEWATER, WIs. - The Beloit College Women's Track and Field teams competed at the Squig Converse Invite hosted by UW-Whitewater today.
Beloit's sprint squad was led by freshman standout Syniyah Quenga (Urbana, IL). In a massive field of over 50 runners in the 200-meter dash, Quenga secured a top-10 finish, crossing the line in 26.89 seconds. The time was a personal record for the freshman, placing her among the elite sprinters at the meet. Quenga also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing with another PR of 1:05.49.
Sophomore Jaslyn Gama (Beloit, Wis.) also had a standout day in the long sprints. Gama notched a 17th-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 1:03.18. She doubled back for the 200-meter dash, clocking a season-best 28.85 seconds.
Joining them in the sprints was freshman Allie Roberts, who delivered two personal best performances. Roberts finished the 200-meter dash in 28.35 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:04.35, placing 20th in the latter. Yaa Akosa (Nungua, Ghana) also represented the Buccaneers in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 32.14 seconds.
In the field events, sophomore Adelaide Schmitt (Aurora, Colo.) was a workhorse for Beloit in the throwing circles. Schmitt's strongest performance came in the weight throw, where she launched a distance of 12.36 meters to take 24th place. She followed that up with a solid 32nd-place finish in the shot put, recording a toss of 9.90 meters.
Freshman Reagan Lamb showed significant progress in the shot put, earning a personal record with a throw of 9.01 meters. Lamb also competed in the weight throw, finishing with a distance of 9.15 meters.
The Buccaneers were represented in the pole vault by junior Haley Carlin (Sarasota, Fla.). Carlin cleared a height of 2.55 meters, earning 26th place in a deep field dominated by UW-La Crosse.
The Buccaneers head to Dubuque, Iowa next weekend for the Spartan Shootout. Action is set to start at 11 am.
