Hall of Honor
Clayton “Kid” Addie excelled in track and football to help Beloit capture several major championships. He captained the 1923 track team which won both the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Relays and the State Meet and tied for the Midwest Conference title. That spring, he was individual high-point man in the state competition, anchored victorious half-mile and one-mile relays teams and established a school broad jump record to go with marks he set earlier in the 100 and 220 yard dashes. His gridiron exploits are equally impressive. While Beloit’s 1921 triumphs over Northwestern and Ripon are among the fondest in his memory, Addie’s performance as a senior is especially noteworthy. Against Lawrence in 1923, he scored two touchdowns after runs of 68 and 85 yards in a 24-9 victory, thus helping end a dozen years of winless frustration against the Vikings. That season concluded with Beloit not only compiling a 6-1-1 record, but also winning the state and Midwest Conference championships. In his post-collegiate years, Addie became an expert handball player, golfer and skier while applying his economics degree to achieve a successful career in real estate.
