Tennis may very well have been an after-thought for Marina “Masha” Prudnikova as she headed to Beloit College but it was definitely a great thing for the Buccaneer Women’s Tennis team.  Active in the sport beginning at the age of six, her hard worked paid dividends when she was ranked one of the top five players in her age group in the Ukraine every year.  That experience, discipline and talent paid off in a big way for two years when she stood at the top of the Midwest Conference women’s tennis ladder.  As a member of the team for two seasons, she made every practice and match count with back-to-back MWC #1 singles championships and two Buccaneer Most Valuable Player honors.  She also earned ITA Division III All-American laurels for both her play on the court and her work in the classroom.  Prudnikova rose as high as #9 in the national rankings in the Spring of 1999, when she was also the #1-ranked player in the Region, rising up from #4 in her first season and #3 in her second.  In addition to being stellar on the court, Masha was also a stand out in the classroom earning a near-4.0 GPA in economics and business.  After graduation she earned her MBA from Northern Illinois University and is currently in Supply Chain Management at Woodward Governor Company in Rockford.
