Hall of Honor
Few players in any sport have the ability to excel during their career and have the standards they established continue to hold up year after year. Jamie Cassette is one of those few. As a pitcher for the Buccaneer Softball team Cassette put up numbers that still resonate as the benchmark for Beloit College pitchers. Coming to Beloit after an outstanding three-sport career in high school, she became a big part of a perfect storm of athletic talent in Softball for the Bucs. A two-time All-Conference pitcher and the Most Valuable Player for Beloit’s first and only Conference Championship team in 1996, Cassette still holds the record for most career victories with 58 and the best earned run average at 2.14. She recorded every one of the 19 victories the ’96 team posted while striking out a record 133 with a 1.30 ERA. She also played Tennis for two seasons for the Bucs, earning team Player of the Year honors in her second season. The Ruth Peterson Award recipient after her senior season, she graduated with a degree in History. She was a teacher in Pahrump, Nevada, as well as the middle school athletic director, for over ten years and is now teaching middle school mathematics in Austin, Texas.
