Hall of Honor
“The best pitcher in the modern era of Beloit College Baseball.” That’s how head coach Dave DeGeorge described Geoff “Bump” Bailey at the end of his four-season career for the Buccaneers. A four-time All-Midwest Conference honoree and a three-time team Pitcher of the Year, Bailey’s records are still very much a part of the Beloit record book. He is the all-time victories leader with 22 and shares the innings-pitched mark of 219.1. In 39 career appearances he struck out 152 batters, with both numbers still ranking third on the career books. During his senior season he won seven games, the most ever at the time, while pitching 62.1 innings and recording a miniscule 1.46 earned-run-average. During that season he also combined with Jim Herbison to pitch the first no-hitter in Beloit history, shutting down Knox. Bailey’s take-charge ability has continued after graduation in a career of education in which he has taught, coached and been an administrator. He has been an elementary school principal since 2007, currently at Grapevine Elementary in Crofton, Kentucky.
