An outstanding scholar-athlete at Glenbard High School, Paul K. Giloth came to Beloit in 1938 to join Bud Butler’s football squad.  As a defensive-offensive end, he was a member of the 1940 conference championship team.  Twice named second-team all-conference and president of the “B” club, Paul was a nine-letter, three-numeral winner in football, basketball, and track.  He made valuable contributions as guard on the basketball team and was elected co-captain by his peers his senior year.  In track, Paul competed in discus, javelin, shot put and pole vault.  He was the runner-up in pole vault at the ’42 Beloit Relays which Beloit won for the first time.  Peers and faculty members consistently cited Paul’s perseverance and extraordinary sportsmanship and voted him “outstanding senior athlete.”  Married to Frances Gramer of the Class of 1941 since 1943, Paul achieved great distinction during his service in the Army Signal Corps and then as an electronics engineer and inventor for Bell Laboratories.
