Chip Pettibone made an indelible mark in the water at Beloit College.  When he made the decision to attend Beloit, not only was he traveling 2,000 miles from his San Francisco Bay-area home and continuing a family tradition, he was about to become one of the most prolific swimmers in Beloit College history.  A three-time Most Valuable Swimmer and the “high-point” man for each of those seasons, Pettibone graduated in 1984 with six Buccaneer Swimming records in his possession as well as being a member of three record-setting relay teams.  To underline his accomplishments nearly 25 years later, the record he set in the 200 Free in 1982 still stands, as do the all-time marks for the three relay events he swam in, leading off in the 400 and 800 Free Relay and swimming the third leg in the 400 Medley Relay.  He was named the Jansen Award recipient following his junior year and a Beloit College Blanket winner at the end of his senior year.  The recognition he received as a third-generation “legacy” at commencement ceremonies on a sunny May day in 1984 topped off an exciting four years.  And the long journey to Beloit College that began on a “whim” back in 1980 has only led to bigger and better things since.  A graduate of the prestigious Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, Pettibone resides in Sebastopol, California, with his wife Margie and their four children.  He is President of Product Management at Safari Books Online.
