Toughness, competitiveness and the ability to perform under pressure were part of Marc Montoya’s life well before he attended Beloit.  A New Mexico native, Montoya was a prep standout on the diamond and captured a state high school wrestling championship.  He never made a visit to Beloit during his recruitment, enrolling based solely on the phone conversations between he and head Buccaneer Baseball coach Dave DeGeorge.  But Coach had uncovered a gem for the program.  “He played with a flair,” said DeGeorge in describing the career of Montoya.  A four-year letterwinner for the Buccaneer Baseball team as an infielder/pitcher, Montoya was a three-time First Team All-Midwest Conference selection, a two-time team captain and a two-time team Defensive Player of the Year.  He also won the team Pitcher of the Year Award as a sophomore and was team MVP as a senior.  “He was one of the best infielders in program history,” continued DeGeorge.  “He was fun to watch, confident and always a showman.  He came up with big plays when we needed them and was always incredibly entertaining to watch, regardless if he was on the mound or in the infield.”  A near .300 hitter thru his career, “Cap on the Mound Guy” ranked in the top three for career fielding assists, hit by pitch and games played.
