Hall of Honor
The bigger the situation, the bigger Mike Meteyard played. From his high school days as the team captain for his conference champion Racine Park football squad to a record-setting turn as one of the best tight ends in Buccaneer Football history to a no-stealing-allowed catcher for the Buccaneer Baseball team, he rose to the challenge every time it was laid in front of him. From the beginning as the Rookie of the Year in both football and baseball, Meteyard left an indelible mark on two sports. In football, he continues to set the standard as the all-time leader in receptions (162) and receiving yards (2,180) while sharing the receiving touchdowns mark with 14. He earned All-Midwest Conference honors three times, including First Team as a sophomore and senior, and was a Sporting News Pre-Season All-American before his senior season. In Baseball, he was All-MWC three times, earning First team as a sophomore and junior, won the team Most Valuable Player award as a senior and earned pre-season All-American honors twice. At graduation, he was the all-time leader in seven categories and still ranks in the top four in those same categories, including #1 in runners caught stealing (36) and #3 in stolen bases (29). The first modern Buccaneer to play professional baseball, he played one season in independent ball. He also spent some time in the college football coaching ranks at Loras College. Meteyard now works in management for the Target Corporation in his hometown of Racine, Wisconsin, while continuing in football coaching at Racine Park.
