Quick feet, great hands, football savvy – these were the key ingredients wingback Shane Stadler brought to the table as a four-year starter for the Buccaneers. Before graduating, this alumnus of Wisconsin’s Palmyra-Eagle High School set 11 Beloit College records, three of which still stand. He’s tops in total all-purpose yards (5,903), average gain per carry (5.8 yards), and kickoff returns (74 for 1,679 yards).  Stadler also is second in total points (246) and touchdowns (40). In addition to his three first-team all-conference selections as a running back, he twice was named all-MWC kick returner, earned first-team Academic All-American honors, and helped lead the Bucs to two North Division championships and a 29-9 record, including a 9-1 mark in 1991.  “Shane was the whole package; he had all the tools,” recalls Coach Ed DeGeorge. “He had tremendous speed, made the big plays, and was very athletic, tough, and competitive.” Stadler also was a record-setting three-letter winner in baseball and ranks third in career stolen bases and second in season assists.  He won the College’s coveted Janssen and Dawson awards as top scholar-athlete in his junior and senior years, respectively. Holder of a doctorate from Tulane University and a master’s degree from the University of North Dakota, Stadler is a physics professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
